Online Shopping in China

     There was a steady increase in Chinese people shopping online from 2002 to 2007, according to
the table. The number of people shopping online went up from 8.43 million in 2002 to about 55
million in 2007 with an increase of the Internet user population.

     I think there are several reasons for this growth. First, the Internet user population grew from
45.8 million to 210 million in the past years. The more people get online, the more people shop online.
Second, shopping online is convenient. It is not necessary for people to drive to a supermarket and
spend hours shopping. Instead they shop at home sitting comfortably in fix>nt of a computer. With a
click of mouse, the commodities they purchase will be delivered to their home. Third, goods online
are cheap and there is a wide selection. Consumers can take their time selecting commodities of
different types and prices and choose one that is satisfying.

     It can be predicted that online shopping should become more popular because of these advantages and the number of online shoppers will continually goes up.
